Introductory Post
Hello all and welcome to my blog! Here, I will be discussing anything and everything about family traditions. Where do they come from? How many should a given family have? Can you simply make one up or does it have to come from somewhere? Must they be of sentimental value? What are some easy ones to incorporate to your own lives? I'm here to answer these questions and more!
I'd like to begin by defining what a family tradition means to me. A family tradition in my eyes is a recurring activity or behavior that you share with your immediate or extended family. Traditionally, these traditions are inherited from your parents or grandparents, which you then do your part of passing it on to your own children, and down your ever-growing family tree. However, I am here to tell you that family traditions must start somewhere, and that somewhere could be you!
Of course this blog is open for public view, but I want to emphasize who exactly I am writing this blog for. Mainly, I'm writing to those of you who are like me. Those of you who may have had a familial challenged upbringing. Those of you who don't have a long line of traditions to pass on. Those of you who may be starting a family soon and want some traditions for your kids to adopt and pass on. In this blog, I am going to be speaking on my short list of family traditions as well as doing research on some of the most popular family traditions along with some niche ones. Additionally, I will be interviewing people in my own life and going into depth about their certain cultural family traditions. In doing this, I hope to introduce you to an idea that you want to adopt, or to unlock a memory of yours from your own family traditions from childhood, or just to spark that feeling of nostalgia that we all crave at one point or another in our lives.

My experience with family traditions is limited. My parents got a divorce when I was seven years old, and perhaps it was from the trauma of it all or from the fact that I hadn't gained consciousness yet, but I have no memories of my life before my parent's divorce. Of course, like most families, we had some classic traditions, which I will go into more depth on later, and I hold the memory of them very close to my heart, despite my memories being ignited only by the stories I've been told and not my actual experiences. But I very much wish that I had more family traditions to look back on, and if I ever have children, which I hope I do, I want them to have so many family traditions to look back on fondly that they might not even remember some of them.

I would also like to add that I would love for this blog to be an open discussion and a safe space to talk about your own personal experiences! The comments are on because I would love to hear my reader’s comments on my posts, and post about their own traditions and experiences not only so you can learn from each other, but so I can also learn from y’all. I hope everyone can take away something from this, so enjoy!
